Animal Life Cycles

Mrs. Lynn from Alberta Science Network came this week to teach us about Animal Life Cycles.  It was fun to dress like a scientist and explore many different animal life cycles.  After we worked with some "model" animals we were able to look at a live animal life cycle.  Each group got a container with all of the stages of the life cycle of the mealworm/darkling beetle.

ANTs with Mr. McRorie

Mr. McRorie continues to come to our class each week to teach us about changing our negative self-talk into positive self-talk. This week we talked about ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts) and PETs (Positive Energizing Thoughts).
Students then created their own PET and wrote about how their PET will help them control the ANTs.

Bridge Building Challenge

A few weeks ago during science, the students were challenged to work in small groups and build a bridge.  They could only use 50 straws and masking tape to build their bridge. The bridge had to span 20 centimeters and be wide enough to hold a hot wheels car.  We tested the strength of each bridge by placing up to 50 marble weights on one at a time until the bridge collapsed.

Here are the bridges on display in library showcase.

A few pictures of the building in action.

A few pictures of the final products!

Georgia O'Keeffe - ish!

Here is our newest art project, inspired by the artist, Georgia  O'Keeffe.

Building & Testing Project

Here are the finished Building and Testing Projects.  The students were challenged to build a "creature" that is strong, stable and can stand on its own legs. Thank you to our parents for helping with the "blueprint" design plans and supply collection!
