Orange Shirt Day

On Thursday we participated in Orange Shirt Day.  Every Child Matters!

Today was Orange Shirt Day! A day to remember what happened to First Nations Students at Residential Schools across Canada. Our whole school wore Orange as a show of support that #EveryChildMatters.

You can read Phyllis's story and more about Orange Shirt Day here.

I recorded this picture with SLO-Mo...I had the kids throw leaves in the air.  I hope it works, it's pretty cool.  Happy Fall!

Terry Fox run day!

This week we participated in the Terry Fox run. The whole school ran/walked laps on the field for the last 45 minutes of the day.  It was also school spirit day, wear school colours,  so it was exciting to see all of the blue and yellow! Way to go, Mountview!

Sorting Rocks

This week in science we discussed different properties of rocks and how to organize, sort and classify them. Students used their own rock collections and sorted their rocks into categories of colour, shape, and texture.  After they sorted their rocks they were asked to come up with ways to describe each of the properties. I loved listening to the discussions and watching how engaged they were in the activity.  Way to go!

Layers of the earth

This week in science we have been learning about the different layers of the earth.  Students should now be able to tell you that there are four layers of the earth and be able to name them.  Great job with the plasticine models.

Math Practice: Karate Math & Addition War in action

Here we are busy practicing addition math facts. We practice every single day to build accuracy, fluency, and speed with basic facts.

Swimming lessons

We had our very first swimming lesson this week!  Check out all of those smiles!  Swimming = Fun!  Thank you to our parent volunteers for giving us a hand on swimming days.

"Rock Show"

Our rocks and minerals unit started off with our very own "Rock Show".  Students got to share their rock collections with the class.  We will use these collections for other activities during our study of rocks and minerals.

"Me Box" Presentations

We had lots of fun learning about each other with the "Me Box" presentations. Fantastic job, grade 3.  These are always very interesting presentation.
