Halloween in 3S

Halloween at school looked a little different this year, but it was still super fun!  We spent the afternoon doing math, but with a Halloween twist!  We counted, sorted, graphed and tallied M&M candy and Rockets.....then the best part is eating all the candy at the end.

In PE we danced to Monster Mash and Thriller!  FUN!

Karate Math - Black Belt!

Seth is the first one this year to earn his black belt for addition facts!  A black belt means that he has passed 26 timed tests of addition facts with 100% accuracy! Way to go!  On to earning his second-degree black belt!

Stay tuned, I have three more students right on his tail!  It's exciting!

Halloween Art

We've been busy these last few weeks!  We painted Haunted houses and then wrote about them using our five senses to help with elaborative detail!  And we made witch legs!  A fun art project with a different perspective, plus we used a variety of art media including pastels, paper, scrap paper, buttons and ribbon. I love how these all turned out!

Making Words

Several times a week we work with these (homemade) magnetic letters.  We practice matching sounds (phonemes) to letters (graphemes).  This is called Orthographic mapping.  Matching letter symbols to their sound is an essential skill in learning how to read and spell!  I dictate a word to the kids, they repeat the word, finger tap the word, and then "build" the word. The kids enjoy making words and they are learning so much!

Here's a little glimpse.

We Are Thankful

We wrote Thankful Acrostic poems last week.  One copy of the poem for our bulletin board and then the students wrote the poem again and turned it into a Turkey card to take home!  Well done grade threes.

Here is a sample of a few of our Thankful poems.
