Every day uses of rocks and minerals
The last two days we have been discovering all of the many uses of rocks and minerals.

Colours in rocks
We know that rocks are made up of minerals. The colours that we see in the rocks are the minerals. We had a closer look at some of the rocks in our collections to try to identify the number of colours (minerals) in the rocks.

Museum Field Trip
October 2nd. It was a snowy day, but we were brave and walked down to the museum for our "Emerging City" program. We learned a bit of the history of Red Deer, looked at different artifacts and figured out how to put them in chronological order and then made "City" dioramas.

Practice reading the clock
This week we wrapped up our mini unit on telling time. On this day students worked together on a time/clock puzzle. Boys vs Girls!
Read to Self
We are working hard at building our stamina for silent reading, reading to self. Students started their reading logs this week so they can track their awesome reading!

Sorting rocks
The second activity with our rock collections was to figure out how to sort them according to certain properties. We sorting today by colour, shape, and texture. Then the student had to come up with descriptors for each of the rocks in each of the categories.
