We loved learning about St John's Newfoundland and Labrador. Stanley had quite an adventure.
Here's an excerpt from his letter:
According to Historic Sites, in 1901, Signal Hill was at the centre of a major international breakthrough. Guglielmo Marconi, using an antenna suspended 500 feet by kite, received the first transatlantic wireless signal, the letter ‘S’ in Morse code. On this hill, you can see a stone building called Cabot Tower. In 1897, Cabot Tower was commissioned to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot’s discovery of Newfoundland.
Today, Signal Hill is a popular area for tourists and locals. Many people enjoy hiking or running trail paths around the area or simply driving up there in the evening to look at the city lights.
Way to go, Dallas and thank you to your family for participating!
