 For Remembrance Day we wrote our thoughts about Peace with a simple sentence.  Peace is...

Some ideas that our students wrote include:

Peace is friends.

Peace is hugs.

Peace is music.

Peace is kind.

Peace is helping.

Peace is a nap.

Peace is giving.

We also made poppy art. We used watercolour to create a vibrant red colour on the coffee filters and real poppy seeds in the middle.

The display looks beautiful in our hallway.

Remembrance Day

 This week we read several books about "peace".  We also had a discussion about what peace feels like.  The students wrote their thoughtful ideas down for display.  We also made poppy art.  We splatter-painted the background of the picture and then we painted two coffee filters red and turned them into a 3D poppy. Here is a small sample of the students' work.

Remembrance Day

The kids did a lovely job of their poppies and of their poems about peace.  I am super proud of the six students who were picked to read their thoughts about peace at the assembly today.  Great job!

Remembrance Day

We had our Remembrance Day assembly on Tuesday.  Claire, Cooper, and Logan did a wonderful job of reading their thoughts about Peace.  Well Done!

The Poopies that we created for art look amazing on the bulletin board.  We have received many compliments.  And all of the student's Peace Poems are also displayed.  Here's a look at them.

A Poppy Is To Remember

November 4th
Today we talked about Remembrance Day.  I read the students the book A Poppy Is To Remember and then we had a discussion about what their thoughts were about Remembrance Day.  Students then wrote their thoughts and ideas in their journals. In the afternoon we made poppies.

Here is the Poppy art project.

First we used the spray boxes to "spray paint" the background black.  Next, students painted coffee filters red,  these later formed the petals of the poppy. The final touch was gluing on real poppy seeds in the center of the finished project.  Scroll to the bottom for a picture of all of the projects on the bulletin board.
