Flat Stanley - Prince Edward Island

Coby's Flat Stanley returned from an adventure to Prince Edward Island!

Here's an excerpt from Flat Stanley's letter:

PEI is a province of Canada and one of the three Maritime Provinces. It’s the smallest province of Canada. PEI is the Birthplace of Confederation or Cradle of Confederation. Prince Edward Island is located about 200 km North of Nova Scotia. So while Stanley was here visiting Prince Edward Island he stayed in a small town called Mermaid about 7 miles from Charlottetown!

Building and Testing

This week we did a science experiment to test the strength of the Arch structure versus the Square shaped structure!

The arch held the most weight!

Star of the Week - Kye

We had a lot of fun learning more about Kye this week!  Kye read us one of his favourite books too!  How brave to sit in front of the class and read to us.  Well done!

Online Learning - January 4th-8th

I was so impressed with everyone's participation and engagement in our week of online learning.  Way to go, 3S! Here's what our classroom looked like that week.

Flat Stanley - St.John's Newfoundland and Labrador

We loved learning about St John's Newfoundland and Labrador.  Stanley had quite an adventure.

Here's an excerpt from his letter:

According to Historic Sites, in 1901, Signal Hill was at the centre of a major international breakthrough. Guglielmo Marconi, using an antenna suspended 500 feet by kite, received the first transatlantic wireless signal, the letter ‘S’ in Morse code. On this hill, you can see a stone building called Cabot Tower. In 1897, Cabot Tower was commissioned to commemorate the 400th anniversary of John Cabot’s discovery of Newfoundland.
Today, Signal Hill is a popular area for tourists and locals. Many people enjoy hiking or running trail paths around the area or simply driving up there in the evening to look at the city lights.

Way to go, Dallas and thank you to your family for participating!

Flat Stanley - Rocky Mountain House

It was so much fun to learn about Flat Stanley's adventure to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. We learned a lot of interesting facts!

Excerpt from Flat Stanley's letter:  Flat Stanley's adventures in rocky first took him to a big rock, a rock that was here long before Rocky was a town, left here from the last ice age, weighing in at approximately 6 350 000 kilograms. When it was first seen by people, it acted as a landmark for fur traders to know they were on the right track to finding the fur trading post. Now it acts as a historical landmark that young and old can enjoy marvelling at its size or just climbing all over it

Way to go, Kye and thank you to your family for participating.

January Pizza with the Principal winner

Matthew won pizza with Mrs. Roberts by demonstrating Mountivew's 3Rs!
