Winter Break Countdown

We counted to Winter Break by "unwrapping" a picture book each day.  Each book taught us something about various Traditions and Celebrations including; Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Hanukkah, The Spirit of Christmas, Christmas Giving and more. We kept track of each book we read by completing a little writing and drawing activity each day. Something fun to look forward to every day.

You can check it out in the Winter Countdown booklet that your child brought home with them on Friday.

Reindeer Food

We had one last important project to complete on Friday!  We made sparkling Reindeer food to spread on our lawns on Christmas Eve.  The sparkling food helps guide the reindeer to our homes. Merry Christmas!

Service Project #2 - Sock donation

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Service Project and contributed socks to donate to The Mustard Seed.  Our class along with 1/2 VR collected a whole box full of socks and Ms. V and I went to the Mustard Seed after school on Friday to donate them to those in need of a cozy pair of new socks for the holiday.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping our students understand the importance of community service.

Holiday Sock Exchange

We had fun exchanging socks with our friends.  We put all of the packages in the middle of the circle and took turns opening a gift from a friend.  Everyone went home with a new pair of holiday socks.  Thank you to everyone who participated in sending socks for the gift exchange.

Santa Art

I love how these oil pastel Santas turned out!

We followed a step-by-step directed drawing and then coloured in the Santa with oil pastels.

Polar Express Day

We had so much fun on Polar Express Day.  We read the book and completed several activities related to the Polar Express Theme and in the afternoon we watched the movie while enjoying hot chocolate, marshmallows and candy canes.  One of the kids' Grandma's dropped off freshly baked sugar cookies for us to decorate.  And we received a parcel from the North Pole!  What a day!

Gingerbread Day

We had so much fun doing all sorts of activities related to the Gingerbread Man book.

We read two versions of the book, did a scavenger hunt, made hats, completed several activities in a booklet and decorated gingerbread cookies!

Thank you to all of the families who donated supplies for our cookie decorating activity.

Winter Concert

What a fun night at our Winter Concert.  I am so proud of our class and their performance.

Family Traditions

I absolutely loved listening to everyone's Family Tradition Presentations!  Well done, 1S!
