2021-2022 School Year - A Change!

An update!  (A little late)

For the 2021-2022 School Year I am thrilled to be working as a Literacy Recovery Teacher.

I am working as part of a group of six teachers, known as the Literacy Recovery Team. We provided daily targeted small group literacy intervention.  Our school board is making learning loss, due to Covid-19 interruptions, a priority and I am so happy to be a part of the recovery.

My assignment for this year includes Mountview School, Glendale School and Joseph Welsh School.

For the first round of literacy support (September - December), I will be at Glendale in the mornings and Joseph Welsh in the afternoons.

For the second round of literacy support (December - March). I will be at Mountview in the morning and Glendale in the afternoons.

For the third round of literacy support (April-June). I will be at Joseph Welsh in the morning and Mountview in the afternoons.

I am so excited to have this opportunity to teach literacy full-time this year.  Literacy support is my passion.

Did you know that our brains were never wired to read!!  We are wired for speech.  It takes explicit instruction to train the brain to read.

I love the quote from Dr. Louisa Moats "Reading Is Rocket Science".

In the summer of 2019, I completed Orton-Gillingham Training which is an approach to teaching literacy intervention for students will Language Learning Disorders.  I am so excited to put what I learned into practice this year.

Here's my classroom at Mountview.
