Charlie And The Chocolate Factory ~ Character Study

May 26th

We have now finished our final project with the Novel, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.  Check out these cute characters!  Each student chose a character from the Novel to do a character report on.  The body of each of these characters is filled with information about them.

Building and Testing Designs

May 26th

This was a fun building challenge!  Our question:  Which is the strongest material to use for a joint on a cube made of toothpicks?  A marshmallow, a jujube or plasticine.

We found out that the jujubes are by far the strongest!

Happy Birthday!

Science: Building & Testing Designs

Here are a few more pictures of our building and testing projects.

Here is the bridge Building Challenge.  Students were given 50 straws and a roll of masking tape. They were challenged to build a strong, sturdy bridge that would span 15 cm.  After the bridges were built we tested the strength with marbles.  The strongest bridges held 100 marbles!

So much fun!

Here is the building challenge that tested the strength of different types of "joiners".  Students were given straws and challenged to build three cubes.  One cube was joined together with plasticine, one with pipe cleaner and one with paper clips.  Once the cubes were built we tested their strength.  We learned that the pipe cleaner joiners are the strongest!  The paper clips are definitely the weakest!

Bike Rodeo

Here are a few pictures from our Bike Rodeo last Friday.

Charlie & The Chocolate Factory Dioramas

Thursday, May 19th

After reading the novel, students demonstrated their comprehension by building a diorama. The dioramas had to represent significant descriptions students read about in the novel. We spent several days building these, and then put them out on display during our Mountview Showcase.  We received several compliments on the quality and creativity of the dioramas!  Great work grade 3s
Today the students presented their dioramas to the class.

Here is a slideshow of each of their presentations.

And here are a few pictures of the construction!

Kahoot!

Friday, May 6th

Here's a Math Kahoot in action!  On Friday, we always use Chromebooks for our math period.  Today we played a Multiplication Kahoot!  I absolutely love watching how engaged the students are with these lessons and hearing them shout "I love math!"  Math=Fun!
