Ramadan
On Friday, we spent the morning learning about Ramadan. We learned that dates are often a part of the evening meal, so we did a taste test! Most of the students enjoyed the dates.
Pink Shirt Day
On Pink Shirt Day we wrote about what it means to be a friend by completing the sentence stem, "I am kind when I..."
Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year
We had a lot of fun learning about the Chinese New Year this week. We enjoyed Sophia sharing with us about how her family celebrates. Sophia shared a tradition with us about giving red envelopes, and she brought enough envelopes for all of us! Inside was a sweet treat!
We also made our own Chinese New Year lanterns. And we learned about the Tray of Togetherness tradition and enjoyed a chocolate coin!
A fun week.

Valentine's Day
On Friday, we celebrated Valentine's Day and friendship.
First, we read one of my favourite stories, "Enemy Pie."
Next, we chatted about the qualities of friendship. Each student held a card with a word on it that represented a friendship quality.
Then, we handed each child the fruit that they brought for the fruit salad. As they added their fruit to the salad, we talked about the friendship quality that their fruit represented.
After we ate the delicious friendship salad, we did some candy heart math.
We used the candy hearts to count, sort, and graph.
Finally, at the end of the day, we delivered our Valentine cards to our classmates.
We had a fun day celebrating friendship!
