This week, we learned that pinecones hold the seeds for trees. It was exciting to watch the closed pinecone open in the warm classroom and drop its seeds.
This week, we also learned that birds eat seeds in the winter when it is hard for them to find other food.
For our October homework challenge, students collected a pinecone on a nature walk. Thank you to everyone who collected pinecones for this project! We turned those pinecones into bird feeders.
I hope you enjoy watching the birds find your bird feeders in your yard.
